Terra Harvell is an industry disruptor who challenged the beauty industry and built what didn’t exist.
Terra Harvell began her career behind the chair in small-town America. As her career grew, she started seeing the gaps in the industry from the inside. Stylists were taught how to do great hair, but rarely how to build sustainable businesses. Financial literacy was largely absent, and even the products professionals depended on didn’t always meet the standard their work demanded.
One of Terra’s first turning points came when she spent $30,000 of her own money replacing a failed batch of hair extensions for her clients.
Rather than accept it as part of the business, she decided to build something better.
Terra traveled to China to develop hair extensions she could confidently stand behind as both a stylist and business owner. Months of testing and refinement eventually became the foundation of Harper Ellis Hair Co.®
But building a successful product company wasn’t the only lesson Terra was learning.
Behind the chair, Terra eventually produced as much as $750,000 in annual revenue. Then salon ownership taught her something revenue alone couldn’t: a busy business isn’t necessarily a valuable business.
One year, her salon generated just $8 in annual profit.
That became her turning point.
Terra rebuilt the salon from the inside out, changing the way the business operated, made money, and supported the people inside it. She eventually stepped away from behind the chair entirely, and her flagship Harper Ellis Salon® went on to have a 27% net profit margin in 2025.
What Terra learned through that transformation ultimately became Strata Salon Systems™, a salon business model built around the operations, financial structure, people, and marketing required to create a business that can scale beyond its owner.

Before Terra Harvell was building companies, she was a hairstylist behind the chair.
Extensions became a major part of her business, but as her clientele and salon grew, she kept running into the same problem: the quality of the hair didn’t match the level of service she wanted to provide.
After her salon was forced to replace more than $30,000 in poor-quality extensions in a single month, Terra decided to build what she couldn’t find.
